Gifts of Love and Community Farm of Simsbury, Farm to Table Dinner, July 24, 2014

Community Farm of Simsbury promotes education and local agriculture while practicing sound environmental stewardship, preserving the Town Farm and benefiting those in need. In 2013, Community Farm of Simsbury merged with Gifts of Love in Avon to build the capacity of people by creating positive change in their lives, improving food security and lessening the impact of financial crisis for people in need.

Community Farm of Simsbury and Gifts of Love achieve their mission by producing and distributing food, offering farm-based and life-skill educational programs, and providing critical, sustaining tangible supports to those in need.

In 2013, Community Farm of Simsbury donated more than 15,000 pounds of certified-organic produce to families in need through partnerships with Gifts of Love, Billings Forge Community Works, Granby Community Kitchen, Hartford Food System and Simsbury Social Services. In addition, we introduced 2,645 students from throughout Greater Hartford to the Farm through inter-district educational programming and engaged volunteers who donated 2,783 hours to the Farm. With 2014 here, we are open for business and welcome you to join us for educational programming, volunteer opportunities and community events!

July 2014 Gifts of Love, Capitol Campaign Meeting

Tim McCarthy, Board member with Diana Goode, Executive Director

Capital Campaign

Preparing for Gifts of Love's Future

Gifts of Love has been an important community asset and resource for 25 years. In alignment with its organizational strategy, Gifts of Love purchased office space at 34 East Main Street in Avon, merged with Community Farm of Simsbury, and continues to serve more than 250 individuals and families in need each month.

People come to Gifts of Love at one of the most difficult times in their lives. The new office space is larger, more welcoming and bright. In addition, it can adequately accommodate the staff of the merged organizations.

To support the long-term vitality and growth of the organization, Gifts of Love has embarked on a $1.5M capital campaign to pay off the new office space, establish a building endowment and create a cash reserve. Board and staff believe the purchase of the building reflects the commitment of the organization to the community and its clients. Achievement of the capital campaign will serve as the foundation for the long-term health and wellness of the organization and, thus, the community at large.

To make a contribution to Gifts of Love's Capital Campaign, make a donation online at https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/giftsoflovect, mail your contribution to Gifts of Love, P.O. Box 463, Avon, CT 06001, or call Wendi Fralick at 860-676-2323. Thank you for your support!
